Parliamentary Secretary for DFO

In January 2017, I was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Fisheries, Oceans, and the Canadian Coast Guard. This will be an opportunity to represent BC’s voice in a field crucial to our regional economy and culture. Some of my immediate work with Minister Dominic LeBlanc will be focused on:

• Marine Protected Areas: We are on schedule to protect 5% of our marine environment in 2017, and 10% by 2020.
• Protecting Wild Salmon: Strengthening watershed protections and investing in coastline restoration.
• Oil and Gas drilling Ban in the Arctic: Designating all our Arctic waters as off limits to future offshore Arctic oil and gas licensing.
• Protecting our Killer Whale Population: We are committing to a strategy to protect our iconic Southern Resident Killer Whale population.
