Your Guide to Federal Tariff Support in British Columbia

Your Guide to Federal Tariff Support in British Columbia

For the last 18 months, our first priority has been protecting Canadian workers, families and businesses affected by unjustified U.S. tariffs. That is why our government responded with counter-tariffs of 15%, 25% and 50%, matching the U.S. rate product by product. U.S. tariffs hit some Canadians harder than others, so we are putting $7.5 billion in new help behind the people and businesses caught in the middle: fast access to capital for small businesses, income support and retraining for workers who need it, and targeted help for the sectors hit hardest, including forestry, steel and aluminum. This builds on nearly $25 billion in federal support provided since U.S. tariffs began.

No one knows how long this period will last. As Prime Minister Carney has said, this won’t be easy, and resilient Canadians have faced difficult stretches before. Our government is focusing on what we can control: building strength here at home and diversifying our trade, so that Canada is no longer reliant on a single trading partner. Through this uncertainty, our government has your back.

Federal tariff support for BC businesses is delivered by more than a dozen departments and agencies. This guide brings their programs together in one place. Start with the programs open to all sectors of BC business on page 4. Then turn to your sector on pages 5 to 8 to see what your business adds, based on its size. Non-profits see page 13.
